After posting yesterday about the sensitive nature of body functions and feeling a tad embarrassed allllll day long…it’s time for greener pastures. And frankly I’m ready. We still have lots of snow and the pasture is the last thing I may see anytime soon.
I did manage to play in the dirt for a few hours. Most of the tomatoes and cabbage are repotted in the paper pots or peat pots. I still have one tray (60) different varieties of tomatoes to re-pot but I’m out of trays and need to go find some more in the shed.
I sowed the seed for hot & sweet peppers, eggplant, pak choy, borage, artichoke, celery, celeriac, more tomatoes and heaven knows what else. I’m feeling a lot over whelmed with all the plants, but my shelves are doing a good job with the shop lights clipped onto whatever I can clip them to. The peppers and eggplant are nesting on a heat mat which ought to help them germinate quickly.

These tomatoes were getting quite spindly and really needed to be re-potted.

The long stems and the first set of leaves are buried deep in the paper pots. After settling them onto their shelf I poured lots of water into the base and they drank it up into the fresh potting soil. I sure hope these pots hold up. Others seem to believe they do…I hope so. I’m sure I couldn’t find anything else quite as cheap.
It’s really hard for me to plan a garden that will feed us for a year, but I’m sure I have way extra. Who has room for 120 tomato plants? Not me. I think I bought enough seed to open my own shop! I know I can save them and they’ll probably germinate next year. But for now….can you say I over did it?! I’m still learning. Aren’t we all. That’s life. Live and learn. By the time I’m 88 and ready to rest my head for an eternal rest, I’ll have it all figured out. I had so many varieties that I wanted to try and unfortunately you have to buy the whole pack of seeds. But, if you figure how much you save by growing from seed, then a tiny pack of seeds makes a lot of money cents. I already have several folks lined up to purchase any extra plants that I’ll have….and I will have plenty.

I love your little pots and hope they stand the test of time. Luckily since you are ahead of me with your seed operation by a couple weeks I can watch and see…if yours fall apart I won’t make any for myself.:) Oh, and don’t be embarrassed it was a good and informative post.
Thanks Mike. I’ll let you know how these pots hold up!
Hi and great pots! What a money saver. I have tried to start tomato plants indoors once and our cats thought they were treats. Not very effective. Congrats on goat shopping. It is one of my favorite past times. I love goats. Thank you for visiting our blog.
Hi Kelly! Glad you stopped by. I do love watching your adventure in Maine….so much that we took all your snow this year! haha I’d love to do the Goat Camp you did last summer. Looks so cool.
